6 Home Remedies for Gum Disease

Gum disease is an inflammation and infection of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth. At the inflammation or early stage, it is called Gingivitis. If not treated at the early stage it can lead to periodontitis and further to advanced periodontitis which are severe stages of gum diseases. 1. Sea salt solution

Make a solution by dissolving a small amount of sea salt in water. Gargle with this solution several times. Keep it in the mouth for at least 30 seconds. It helps in reducing the swelling and bleeding in gums. Do it twice daily.

2. Baking soda paste

Make a paste by mixing a little bit of baking soda with a little warm water, apply this paste using either toothbrush or with your finger. It helps more in preventing gum diseases than actually treating it. Baking soda is known to reduce acids of the mouth which help in preventing tooth decay and various other gum diseases. The antiseptic properties of baking soda also help in preventing some gum infections.

3. Turmeric and garlic paste

Make a paste of turmeric and garlic and apply it like toothpaste. Keep this paste for few minutes and then rinse it off. The turmeric has antioxidants as well as anti inflammatory properties while both garlic and turmeric has anti bacterial properties. So, both these ingredients help in fighting the bacteria and reducing the swelling and pain in gums.

4. Aloe Vera

The gel of this well known medicinal plant is also very helpful in relieving gum problems. Take the aloe vera gel directly from the leaf of the plant and rub it on your gums and leave it for some time. It helps in relieving the inflammation.

5. Lemon juice solution

Make a solution by mixing lemon juice with water. Use this solution as you use a mouthwash. Lemon has anti inflammatory properties and it is also a good source of vitamin C which helps in fighting bacteria and infections.

6. Clove or clove oil

Chewing cloves or using a solution of clove oil with water as a mouthwash helps in gum problems. Both the antioxidants in cloves help in fighting the bacteria while the antiseptic properties of clove help in relieving gingivitis.
